I also checked that elytra can be bought from /voteshop but the problem is that you don't get vote coins when you vote. There's a shop that sells mending Ench book. says: Yup, shulkers are there but they only spawn once in end cities. And I was trying to find an end city that day but gave up after I used up my dirt and cobble supplies. End cities contain awesome loot and end ships which are rare contain elytra(aka wings which work like gliders).

Mining for iron and coal(no lapis or diamond yet)
Built smeltery room underground
Got to the end, almost died due to diamond armor being nerfed and 1.9 combat.
Got to very far in the end.
Harvested some chorus fruit
Got to home and created auto smeltery
Smelted chorus fruit and crafted purpur blocks
Built a nether portal in smeltery room(the way to create a nether portal without mining obsidian,water+lava=obsidian)
